My Adopted Youth

I am saddened by the meaningless circumstantial damage to many young lives I have come to care for over time. Kids whose dreams, if existent, are of far different colors and dimensions than most, due to the loss of, or abuse by, and inevitable loss of close blood family connection.

Even though, through adoption, many are part of a different or completely new loving family home, that prior unsettling circumstance seems a living, breathing darkness of anxiety, hampering each one's search for a state of reliable safety and peace.

Feeling like little silver pinballs being constantly smacked by the bumpers, they just get used to playing the game and temporarily filling whatever holes they fall into. Life and its occupants have become to them unreliable, harsh, and temporary in their angry, sometimes justifiably hardened, confused, and fearful young hearts.

When their current relationships begin to falter and crash, it is sometimes left to circumstance and the honor of faraway strangers to build and guard the fence around the edges of a potential spiral into the void, and here we are.

I was proud to be a treatment center employee, specializing in the well-being of adopted kids. I was honored to play a grandfatherly-type role to many affected by this unfortunately traumatic life start. It burned some, as I came to more fully understand what might have been, in these just-fresh commencing teen lives, had switches clicked another direction and left them less scared by life's most viciously uncontrollable tragic opening loss.

As an adopting parent myself, I found empathy in this field and renewed philosophical life choice battleground for the war to see what greatness can possibly become of these precious diverse charges, in each their way and in each their time.

Surrogate figures come to exist where I had spent my fair share of working treatment center hours. Many heroic brother, sister, and parental figures have and still walk beside me every day, and a few are uniquely blessed to be surrogate grandparent figures, like me.

The daily works of those successful parental figures I have observed are an exceptional art form unto themselves, and I smile in awe as a witness to the best of them. Ownership, Admin, Safety, Education, Therapy, even Maintenance all get involved in maintaining positive, yet firm and challenging, parent-like interactions with each child client. Trust, professionalism, and follow-through seem to be the greatest currency there. These are often knights of the highest order who, even well-paid, sacrifice much fulfilling their given task. The treatment family is not the only family these Knights love and bear responsibility for.

The best brother and sister figures tussle, tease, play sports, and sadly, are most often called to contain the sometimes brutal blind violent rages of trauma recovery, using only care, bare hands, and wisdom. Heroic is truly an earned word. Thank you for them, their fitness, and for radios.

It is the finest of these concerned young adults who are able to correctly contain, calmly remain, and under what can be brutally emotional output, maintain everyone's health and dignity to the best possible standard that ultimately last in this type of work.

If ultimately unable, impossible life or financial circumstance, distance, personality clash, or valid criminal charges tend to filter those needing a different cup of this proverbial tea or, when warranted, incarceration. It is not a profession for the angry, weak-spirited, unreliable, or ultimately vile and nefarious.

I had, in several programs, witnessed the smallest stand calmly before angry giants and giants tenderly hold the smallest from dire moments of self-destruction. I personally witnessed some few years back the heroism of a crusty, overweight special ed teacher vault the walls of a 6-foot bathroom stall, like an Olympic gymnast, to prevent a distraught teen in the process of slitting her own throat with a found piece of glass. Some are called by higher voices to react and serve.

This work may not last a lifetime for some; it can itself traumatize, but time served well by each one, I have come to know well or just in passing, is now held fast to my own priceless memories and certainly ultimately appreciated by all lives, increased of peace and by them effected.

For each of these good lives present, having sincerely made a stand for the future of so many or even one, to be a bit easier to handle, I bow personally, a sincere and heartfelt thanks for that valued time and courageous act of special service. Bless you and Carry on.

Poetic Politics

The free yet rule-controlled flow of poetry is capable of striking with its beauty while also acquiescing to the subtle limitations of language, mood, and rhythm.
All great scriptures of the human experience, in some form, hold these principles close. I admire both prolific poet masters and those whose wisest words were spent on a single cause. The controlled yet open expression of pure creative speech—
May it ever stay true.
May it ever stay free.

Change

The great mass of professional pan handlers don't phase me much I politely say no to the vast majority but tonight leaving work a dirty skeleton with a little backpack, walking past my lone car in the lot, paused and turned toward me. He didn't come any nearer than the ten feet he started at. He couldn't have been more then 25. Hollow eyes just looked at me for near 5 seconds then In a weak small voice said something too soft to hear. I thought "great another pan handler wanting change for drugs or beer" I growled "WHAT?"
He gulped, teared a bit, and just slightly louder said "I'm so hungry". looking into these young broken eyes, It was clear, he was starving. All my problems of the week vanished instantly. NOTHING in my life became so important as feeding this broken child. I'm pretty tight with cash, but it was the best 20 I've spent and quick lift to Jack in the box I've given in quite some time. He sincerely thanked me, but for opening my crusted over soul he cannot know how much I thank him too and how grateful I am for what I have. All I keep thinking is I should have done more.

Ol' Time Religion

The relationship between government and religion is a fundamental aspect of political and social organization, influencing laws, culture, and the daily lives of citizens. Throughout history, societies have grappled with the challenge of balancing religious freedom with effective governance, leading to a variety of models and approaches. This topic is particularly relevant in today’s world, where issues of religious tolerance, secularism, and the role of religion in public life are subjects of ongoing debate. Understanding these different models is crucial to grasping how nations navigate the complex interplay between religion and government, and the implications for both religious freedom and state authority.

Models of Governance Concerning Religion
There are several primary models by which governments approach the relationship with religion. Each model reflects a different philosophy regarding the role of religion in public life and the extent to which the state should involve itself in religious matters.

1. Separation with Promotion
One common model is the separation of religion and state, accompanied by the promotion of religious freedom. This approach is exemplified by countries like the United States, where the First Amendment of the Constitution guarantees both the free exercise of religion and the prohibition of establishing any state religion. In this model, the government remains neutral regarding religious matters, neither endorsing nor opposing any particular faith. The goal is to create an environment where individuals are free to practice their religion as they see fit, without interference from the state.

This separation is seen as essential for protecting religious freedom and ensuring that no single religious group can dominate the political landscape. By keeping religion and government distinct, this model seeks to avoid the conflicts and power struggles that can arise when religious institutions wield political power. At the same time, the promotion of religious freedom is emphasized, recognizing the importance of religion in many people’s lives and its role in fostering a diverse and pluralistic society.

In practice, this model allows for a wide range of religious expressions within the public sphere, as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others or challenge the secular nature of the state. Religious groups can establish schools, charities, and other institutions, and individuals are free to express their beliefs in public and private life. However, the government does not provide direct support to religious organizations, and religious considerations are generally excluded from policymaking.

2. Theocratic Enforcement
At the opposite end of the spectrum is the model of theocratic enforcement, where a single religion is established as the foundation of all laws and governance. This model is most clearly seen in countries like Saudi Arabia, where Islamic law, or Sharia, forms the basis of the legal system. In such states, religious authorities often hold significant power, and religious doctrine dictates not only personal conduct but also public policy and law.

In a theocratic state, the government’s legitimacy is often derived from its adherence to religious principles, and deviations from these principles can be seen as not only illegal but also immoral. This model can lead to a highly homogeneous society where religious conformity is enforced, and dissenting religious views are suppressed. Non-adherents of the dominant religion may face significant discrimination, and the freedom to practice other religions is typically limited.

Theocratic enforcement can lead to stability in countries where the population largely shares the same religious beliefs, as the legal system and governance are deeply aligned with the cultural and religious values of the people. However, it can also result in significant human rights concerns, especially for religious minorities and those who do not conform to the state’s religious ideology.

3. State-Controlled Religion
A third model is state-controlled religion, where the government permits religious practices but maintains strict oversight and control over religious institutions. China is a prominent example of this approach, where the state officially promotes atheism but allows certain recognized religions to operate under tight regulations. Religious groups are required to register with the government, and their activities are closely monitored to ensure they do not challenge the authority of the Communist Party.

In this model, the government seeks to control religion to prevent it from becoming a source of opposition or social unrest. Religious practices that are deemed to align with the state’s goals are tolerated, while those that are seen as subversive or politically threatening are repressed. This can lead to significant restrictions on religious freedom, particularly for unregistered or underground religious groups, which may face harassment, imprisonment, or worse.

State-controlled religion often reflects a broader strategy of maintaining social and political control. By regulating religious activity, the government aims to minimize potential sources of dissent and ensure that religious institutions do not challenge the official ideology. However, this approach can lead to significant human rights abuses, particularly against religious minorities who are not recognized by the state or whose practices are seen as incompatible with state policies.

4. Secular Repression
In some cases, governments adopt a model of secular repression, where religion is viewed as a threat to the state and is actively suppressed. North Korea is a prime example of this approach, where the government promotes an ideology of state atheism and severely restricts religious practices. In such regimes, religion is often seen as a competing source of authority that could undermine the state’s control over the population.

Secular repression involves not just the separation of religion from government but the active suppression of religious beliefs and practices. Religious institutions are often dismantled, and religious leaders may be persecuted or forced into exile. The government may promote atheism as part of its official ideology, and religious symbols and practices are often banned.

This model can create a highly controlled society where religious expression is driven underground, and the state maintains strict control over all aspects of life. However, it also leads to significant human rights violations, as individuals are denied the freedom to practice their religion and are often subjected to severe penalties for attempting to do so.

Implications for Religious Freedom and Governance
The relationship between religion and government has profound implications for both religious freedom and the effectiveness of governance. In models where religion is tightly controlled or suppressed, religious freedom is often severely curtailed, leading to persecution and discrimination against those who do not conform to the state’s religious policies. In contrast, models that promote religious freedom while maintaining a separation between religion and state can create a more open and tolerant society where diverse religious beliefs can coexist.

1. Religious Freedom
Religious freedom is a fundamental human right recognized in various international treaties and declarations, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It encompasses the right to hold religious beliefs, practice religion, and change one’s religion without fear of persecution or discrimination. In models that emphasize the separation of religion and state, religious freedom is typically more robust, as the government does not interfere in religious matters or favor one religion over others.

However, religious freedom is not absolute and must be balanced against other rights and interests, such as public order, safety, and the rights of others. In some cases, governments may impose restrictions on religious practices to prevent harm or protect the rights of others, but these restrictions must be proportionate and necessary in a democratic society.

In models of theocratic enforcement or state-controlled religion, religious freedom is often limited, as the government imposes strict controls on religious practices and may punish those who deviate from the state’s religious policies. This can lead to significant human rights abuses, particularly against religious minorities or those who practice unrecognized religions.

2. Governance
The effectiveness of governance is also influenced by the relationship between religion and the state. In models where religion and state are separate, governance is typically more inclusive and representative of a diverse population. Laws and policies are based on secular principles, which can help ensure that they are fair and equitable for all citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs.

In theocratic or state-controlled models, governance may be more stable in the short term, particularly in societies where the population largely shares the same religious beliefs. However, these models can also lead to significant social divisions and conflict, especially when religious minorities are marginalized or persecuted. Moreover, the alignment of religious doctrine with state policy can make governance less flexible and responsive to changing social and economic conditions.

In models of secular repression, governance is often characterized by authoritarian control and the suppression of dissent. While this may lead to short-term stability, it can also create a climate of fear and repression, where individuals are denied basic freedoms and rights. Over time, this can lead to significant social unrest and resistance, undermining the long-term stability and effectiveness of governance.

The Global Landscape
Different countries exemplify these various models in their approaches to religion and governance. The United States, with its commitment to the separation of church and state, promotes religious freedom within a pluralistic society. Saudi Arabia enforces a theocratic model where Islamic law governs all aspects of life. Russia maintains tight control over religious practices, allowing only state-sanctioned religions to operate, while China exemplifies secular repression, where religion is actively suppressed and practioners sacrificed or harvested to the state.

These examples highlight the diversity of approaches to religion and governance around the world. Each model has its strengths and weaknesses, and the choice of model often reflects the historical, cultural, and social context of the country. However, the implications for religious freedom and governance are significant, with some models offering more protection for individual rights and others leading to greater control and repression.

Balancing Religion and Governance
The relationship between religion and government is a delicate balance that requires careful consideration of both religious freedom and the need for effective governance. In societies where religion plays a central role, it is important to ensure that religious practices are protected while also maintaining a secular legal framework that respects the rights of all citizens.

At the same time, it is important to recognize the dangers of excessive state control over religion, which can lead to significant human rights abuses and the suppression of religious freedom. In a globalized world, where diverse cultures and religions increasingly interact, finding a balance between religious freedom and effective governance is more important than ever.

Conclusion
The relationship between government and religion is a complex and multifaceted issue with far-reaching implications for religious freedom, governance, and human rights. Different countries have adopted various models to navigate this relationship, each with its strengths and weaknesses. The separation of religion and state, theocratic.

A Peace with Trauma

Whether based on genetic, familial, racial, historical, chemical, occupational, or age variable, the traumas realized by 100% of human life forms, in it's formative consequential effects, seem to find resolution in perhaps, a similar fashion to our varied immunity response to virus.
All peoples from birth are at some moment shaken in our core by sudden change. Change in understanding our wholely unique internal status quo. Like sickness, an infant nightmare, a sudden fall, a break, an unreasonable challenge, temperature, hunger, thirst, or violence, trauma can effect us in so many infinitely personal ways, some unfortunately devestating. Yet as with viral microscopic attacks to our physical being, we each bare varying abilities for immune survival response and an avenue toward better understanding our internal response to traumatic events.
Beat it, Bury it or Befriend it, at all cost, though each have a price and hopefully payoff.
Opening to your own self discovery is the cost. The cost for building immunity and the sometimes monumentally important, potentially painful adventure to recovery or at the least tolerance.
Either to another's holy trust or out to the universe by a lonely fire or screaming to the howling winds, you must open the obstructions to free your psychological pipes.
There are steps it seems for resolution to both simple and complex trauma. I leave those complex methods to far better educated and well paid resources than I.
My own observation and ultimately peace with my own disquieting events have now turned 58 years old.
I have had many things about myself to discover over time. I have found tools to weaken those traumatic footholds to the many levels of my doubt and fear. Some obvious and others long held and well hidden.
Some useful methods for taking trauma to task, I have found particularly useful.
Love yourself enough to forgive.
Forgive yourself most of all and escape what cycled through your past.
Forgive others for the cycles they road over and through you.
Connect to internal and/or external higher power for release and relief.
Get physical. Eat better, sleep better, work and work out.
Get outside and build up your inventory of positive moments.
Don't over do self pity, but Do something! Find your vent. I promise change will follow.
Support each other. Not with blind approval of every action but like a sports fan who wants their team to win with complete acceptance of each individuals incremental efforts forward.
Faith and positive regard have no negative effect on recovery, that I have ever seen. Have some faith. Faith in yourself and faith in others that, over what time is needed, each of us will navigate to ever calmer seas.
I have written this for the many I know still looking for relief and the many more for their apparent healthy progress. I am a fan. You are loved. Carry on.

Gethsemane

Verily, I have sought to shroud my soul in the mists of seers and scribes, but this eve, I feel the urge to cast aside such gauze and speak with forthright honesty, my soul laid bare.
It has been a harsh lesson that my own arrogance and wrath have cast me in a cage of my own making. I have forsaken a life I cherished, a life I fled for fear of living.
I have razed bridges and abandoned those who trusted me, leaving them to fill the void in the wake of my broken promises.
I strayed from my path and tumbled into a despair that threatened to rob me of all meaning and leave me a shame upon those I held dear.
I wielded the lance inwards, thinking only of my own pain and ignoring the hurt of others.
I offered counsel to the suffering, yet in that moment of clarity, I vowed to take my own advice, to give it one more day, to fight on.
And then love came, like a beacon in the night, as children reminded me of the greater purpose of life, not just the mere act of existing.
In that fateful moment, I awoke, and I saw how richly blessed I truly am, even in the face of poverty and fear.
For hundreds of thousands risk all for a chance at the hope that I take for granted, while millions more suffer beyond the reach of salvation.
If I were to lose all this night, I would still have known more than most, for I have a roof, fresh water, a bed, food, and most of all, the love and care of those near and far.
I am made whole and renewed by this love, purged of all disappointment, and ready to take my stand in a world that seems torn asunder.
The night winds sing me to the sunrise, guiding me to a destiny held in the hands of my people.
And so I say, all shall be well, for the lance is down, and the dawning of a new day beckons.

Gender Open

Without diving too deeply into the myriad of freshly identified and ever expanding tidal pool of human gender deliniations filling the cups of scientific journals and dictionaries these past several years, I am most firmly convinced my golf game is completely genderless.
But for the extra body hair, sperm count, and XY chromasome chaser, gender neutral seems presently, the perfect slot for my confusing golfing game. No one more than my, very manly, full on XY, macho savage, long ball hitter son, gives me more reason to suspect my golf games likely gender fluidity.
My catlike ability to attack the green, with all hardware from the Driver to the putter is my calling card (literally, have you seen the flayling paws of a kitten attempt to even try to properly hold a pitching wedge), likely why the muffled background noises catching the breeze in a snickering fade upon result of my swing seem to reference the metaphor (*pussssaaaayyyyy)
The larger scraps of fairway tossed or timid nibbling at a clubstrikes requirement is too often, in footage, equaled by a stunningly similar forward projection in spectacular inches. I see in those dire strikes a form of humiliating links homage to the millimeter metric system of this lovely sports damp Scottish home.
I realize now that I am not a fully male golfer. Not to say those of alternate chromasome cant wack the shite out of balls correctly (from the ladies tee of course) but my game can not any more identify as being manly. I have joined the golf swing genderless. I dont seem to sport enough testosterone to turn compressed man rage into a spinning Krakatoa sand blast or enough of that controlled estrogen laser focused tidal fury to slap n tap that white, pink or blue ball to where "I Must Have It Go!"
I can only now identify as a Caddie! I can no longer drive the cart without confusion and shame. I must walk the course marshalling alone or except whatever (unique/eunic), handsome, course drink vendor, destiny awaits me, should I continue connection to the holy green. My clubs are now literally "they" and "them", I am a Siswedging Pandriver? Lost, yes lost across the green and swimming once more. Topped it again, Dammit!
